Boardwalk Empire to end in Season 5

Boardwalk Empire to end in Season 5

Well shit. An announcement from HBO said that Boardwalk Empire’s new season in the fall of 2014 (Season 5) will also be the shows last.

Programming President Michael Lombardo had this to say:

It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers. Terry Winter has created one for the ages.

Terrence Winter said:

We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire. After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.

Boardwalk Empire premiered in 2010 and has been nominated/won various awards for writing and in particular Bobby Cannavale picked up a Best Supporting Actor Emmy for his portrayal of Gyp Rosetti in Season 3.

Honestly I am a bit disappointed with this news, in particular as the show seems set to end completely on finishing the Nucky Thompson arc and not continuing on afterwards with the rise of Al Capone and Lucky Luciano, but then again, Nucky has the focus point the whole series, whether you like it or not.

Hopefully there could be a spin-off from this but it’s unlikely at this point.
