Looks like we’re going to get two Jimi Hendrix films in the near future as it was announced recently that Anthony Mackie will be playing Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming film Jimi.
There is already a Hendrix film that’ll be on the big screen, releasing in August time, with Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000 of OutKast fame) in the lead role in All Is By My Side, with the film premiering at the Toronto Film Festival last year and while it focused on the Hendrix’s rise to fame, Jimi will focus on the final days of the guitarist’s life.
Jimi is written and directed by Ol Parker and will co-star Thandie Newton and Noomi Rapace and will begin filming soon. At least the biopic’s won’t be the exact same as both will focus on different periods of the guitarist’s life.
