Of all films getting the reboot/remake treatment in recent years, this is one I could easily do without. Studio Canal are moving forward with the project, bringing on board Fast & Furious producer Neal Moritz and also Joe Gazzam to write the script.
The original film on mountain climber Gabe Walker (Sylvester Stallone), a year after a tragic accident, is asked to go back to the same mountain range to rescue a group of stranded people. The thing is, the stranded people are thieves looking to recover three briefcases, containing a total of $100 million and force Walker to help them.
Moritz obviously has dealt with action orientated films in the past but I honestly can’t see how you could get away with bringing Cliffhanger back as a reboot or even a remake, it was a definitive 90’s action film and some of the stunts, landscape shots were something else. Dear mother of god don’t CGI/green screen the film to death. It’s been 21 years since the original so I hardly see the point in a reboot now but then again once a film is over 15 years old now it’s a good contender to be reimagined. It’ll take something special to have a villain like John Lithgow in that film, I mean seriously, what a dick.
