True Detective: HBO Confirm Colin Farrell AND Vince Vaughn And Character Details For Season 2

TV News - HBO confirm that Vince Vaughn Is On Board For True Detective Season 2 Over the weekend Colin Farrell let the Sunday World that he was to be in True Detective Season 2 and yesterday HBO officially confirmed it while also confirming that Vince Vaughn will be joining him, as well as a few little details about the upcoming season. They’ve also confirmed that director Justin Lin will be behind the first two episodes and that the quick plot of the second season is ‘Three officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder’.

Farrell will be playing one of the three cops named Ray Velcoro, who is a detective caught between a rock and a hard place between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mob boss who owns him. Vaughn is to play the career criminal, from the plot tag, named Frank Semyon, who is in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is by the murder of a business partner. The other two detectives are Paul Woodrugh (It’s believed for a while that Taylor Kitsch is nailed for this role) and Ani Bezzerides (whom the search continues for an actress).

The role for the female lead, Ani Bezzerides, has had a dozen names attached to it other the last number of months and recently there was a lot of talk of Elisabeth Moss and Rachel McAdams being linked to it, though a few sources said that a shortlist of actresses were invited to read for creator Nic Pizzolatto and they are:

Rosario Dawson

Kelly Reilly

Jessica Biel

Malin Akerman

Abigail Spencer

Oona Chaplin

Jaimie Alexander

Brit Marling

The news about Vaughn joining is an interesting one as I haven’t seen him in a dramatic role in a long long time (Return to Paradise for example of how long it has been) and as for the main lead actress, I don’t think the shortlist is for certain that one of these will get it as these shortlists in the last few years for films/tv shows are normally wrong but I’m sure it’ll be revealed as to who will play Ani Bezzerides and Paul Woodrugh in the next few weeks as  True Detective is to begin filming in California in Autumn.
