Supergirl: Former Supergirl And Superman Join The Show

TV News - Helen Slater and Dean Cain Join SupergirlWell the Supergirl pilot has been picking up on the casting front the last week, with the main headlight being the meta casting of Helen Slater and Dean Cain to the show.

Helen Slater played Kara on the big screen version of Supergirl back in 1984 and Dean Cain played Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman back on ABC’s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman back in the 90’s. The two would then appear on the Superman drama Smallville during it’s run on the WB/CW Network, with Slater playing Kal-El’s Krypton mother Lara and Cain played the immortal Dr. Curtis Knox. Recently Melissa Benoist, the new Supergirl, posted a picture of her and Helen Slater together on twitter:

Their roles at the moment are being kept under wraps, but it’s been speculated that they could play the Kent’s.

TV News - Jeremy Jordan joins the cast of SupergirlThe most recent casting announcement was that Jeremy Jordan is signed on to guest-star on the show as Winslow ‘Winn’ Schoot, a tech-savvy colleague of Kara’s at CatCo. Dean Cain, Helen Slater and Jeremy Jordan will join an expanding cast that includes Chyler Leigh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Kara’s foster sister Alexandra ‘Alex’ Danvers, David Harewood (Homeland) as Department of Extra-Normal Operations chief Hank Henshaw, Calisa Flockhart (Ally McBeal) as Kara’s boss Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks (Necessary Roughness) as Jimmy Olsen and Laura Benanti (Smallville) as Kara’s Krypton mother, Alura Zor-El, who continues to guide her daughter across space and time.

On the meta casting front, I like that they’re bringing Slater and Cain into the mix, keeping it in the family so to speak and hope that this brings in a little extra fanfare to viewing proceedings. I don’t know much outside of the casting choices of Benanti and Harewood, which I both like for the roles they’re playing, the rest I’m unfamiliar with.
