To the surprise of absolutely no one, it was revealed yesterday that we will be getting a Furious 8 installment from the Fast & Furious franchise, with Universal scheduling it for cinematic release in April 2017.
The news broke during the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon, following an emotion speech by Vin Diesel, adding ‘We’re going to make the best movie you’ve ever seen,’ following the announcement of the release date.
Furious 7 has been out in cinemas worldwide for the last three weeks and already it’s proven to be a juggernaut at the box office, making over $1.1 BILLION worldwide, making it the seventh highest grossing film of all time and is still making money so it’ll be interesting to see how much money it makes in the end. Granted, some would suggest that the film is only making this much money due to the passing of Paul Walker (which is stupid, considering the Fast & Furious films have been steadily making more money per film in the last few; Fast Five made near $630m and Furious 6 made nearly $790m).
It’s no surprise that with the money it has made that an eight Fast & Furious film is coming and I’m curious to see where they go next with the franchise following the departure of Paul Walker.
