Last night via the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, we finally got the first trailer for the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Civil War released online and it certainly wets the appetite for the next instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Synopsis for Captain America: Civl War is as follows:
“Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
We have the return of William Hurt, reprising the role of General Thunderbolt Ross who we last seen way back in The Incredible Hulk in 208 and we also get the first glimpse of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther. Still as of yet no Spiderman (Tom Holland) reveal, though some are indicating that the person at 1:55-1:56 might be him I believe it’s Bucky and no villain appearances from Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo or Frank Grillo as Crossbones from my point of view. I like how the Captain America films still feel more personal as it goes on and it looks like the Russo Brothers are continuing that trend here as Cap not only disagrees about the government heads looking to regulate superheroes, but also be protecting Bucky that causes conflict amongst his former friends. Says a lot that in this first trailer it’s Tony Stark that comes across as the more sympathetic, especially when Captain America tells him ‘Sorry Tony. You know I wouldn’t do this if I had any other choice…but he’s my friend’ and Stark, hurtfully says ‘So was I’. It’s a good first trailer and here’s some stills from it below.
Captain America: Civil War is set for cinematic release in May 2016.
