Deadline and a few other media outlets have been reporting that Fast 8 will have a sole female villain and that the actress being eyed up for the role is none other than Mad Max: Fury Road’s Furiosa, Charlize Theron.
The report goes on to say that sources tell Deadline that director F. Gary Gray and and screenwriter Chris Morgan are looking to add a fierce female villain into the script, which is not yet complete, to take on Dominic Toretto and company in the eighth instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise and that Universal have had no comment on casting speculation at this point of when the report went out just over an hour ago.
I guess the speculation jump would make sense as there’s an instant connection between F. Gary Gray and Charlize Theron when they worked together before on the remake of The Italian Job over a decade ago and Theron is just after playing an instantly iconic female character in Furiosa, it’ll be interesting to hear whether the Deadline sources are right on this one. Personally a small part of me hopes that this new trilogy sets off for a Dom and his family versus a super villain group of sorts by the final instalment and part of me wants that Helen Mirren will be brought in after the stories surfaced of wanting to be in it and Vin saying ‘of course’ he’d bring her in if given the chance. Dom’s family vs the Shaw family, make it happen Universal!
Fast 8 is scheduled for cinematic release on the 14th April 2017.
