Deadline has reported that Sophina Brown has landed a co-starring role in NBC pilot Cruel Intentions, set after the events of the 1999 film.
Sophina Brown starred in television shows such as Numbers, Shark and most recently on MTV’s Scream and joins cast members Taylor John Smith (Insidious: Chapter 3 and American Crime) and Samantha Logan (666 Park Avenue and The Fosters).
Cruel Intentions was released on the big screen back in 1999 in which it received a cult following as the story focused on two wealthy step-siblings of an elite Manhattan prep school make a wager: to de-flower the new headmaster’s daughter before the start of term.
et in present day, the pilot picks up more than 15 years after the events of the film where we follow the beautiful and cunning Kathryn Merteuil as she vies for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her late brother Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove. Upon discovering his late father’s legacy in a hidden journal, Bash is introduced to a world of sex, money, power and corruption he never could have imagined. The pilot also has the films director and writer, Roger Kumble, and producer Neal H. Moritz are also working on this television adaptation with NBC. Sophina Brown is set to play Naomi, the ex-wife of Kathryn’s husband Pascal and mother to Cassidy. She’s a force to be reckoned with have recently returned from Capitol Hill with the hopes of being the first black Republican congresswoman in the history of California. Taylor John Smith is cast in the role of Bash Casey while Samantha Logan is cast in the role of Cassidy.
