xXx 3: The Return of Xander Cage Set For January 2017 Release

TV News - xXx 3 The Return of Xander Cage - Set For January 2017 ReleaseParamount has pencilled in Vin Diesel’s xXx: The Return of Xander Cage for a cinematic release date on the 20th January 2017.

The sequel and second instalment that Vin Diesel will be part of in the franchise, is currently shooting Toronto before filming additional footage in the Dominican Republic. Vin Diesel donned the Xander Cage role back in the original film released in 2002, as underground sports star who was blackmailed by the U.S. government to take down a gang of international terrorists. That first xXx film was directed by Rob Cohen and made $277m worldwide while the 2005 sequel, xXx: State of the Union/The Next Level, starred Ice Cube in the lead role and was directed by Lee Tamahori, only made $71m worldwide.

The third film follows Xander Cage coming out of self-imposed exile to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Also cast in the film is Deepika Padukone, Ruby Rose, Nina Dobrev, Donnie Yen and Samuel L. Jackson reprising the role of Agent Gibbons with D.J. Caruso in the directors chair.

While some may be worried that this instalment of an action film is penned in for a late January release rather than early or late summer, but it could be a good move from Paramount as it’s normally a quiet period in terms of watchable films that they could capitalise on.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage is scheduled for cinematic release on the 20th January 2017.
