The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that David Denman has joined the cast of Lionsgate film Power Rangers.
The Power Rangers film will be a reimagining of the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (TV series that came out in 1993 and also had a big screen release in 1995), a group of High School kids given extraterrestrial powers who unite to save the world. Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is on directing duties whilst Saban Brand’s Haim Saban as well as Brian Casentini, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are Producers and Allison Shearmur will serve as an Executive Producer. The script has been written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter and Gods of Egypt).
David Denman has been cast in the role of Sam Scott, father of Jason Scott, who is often at odds with his son over his football career. Denman joins a cast that includes Becky G. (Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger), Naomi Scott (Kimberly Hart/Pink Ranger), RJ Cyler (Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger), Darce Montgomery (Jason Scott/Red Ranger), Ludi Lin (Zack Taylor/Black Ranger) and Elizabeth Banks (Rita Repulsa).
I haven’t seen Denman’s role in the US version of The Office but I liked his role in Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and I’m definitely curious to check out the upcoming series he stars in called Outcast, it sounds like this might be a small role for him in the grand scheme of things.
Powers Rangers is scheduled for a cinematic release on the 24th March 2017.
