While it was reported a while back that Universal were eyeing Charlize Theron for a key role, Deadline exclusively reports that she’s officially signed up for the role.
Back in the middle of February speculation spread that F. Gary Gary and screenwriter Chris Morgan were looking to add a fierce female villain into the script and thought that Theron would be the right fit for the role to increase the catalogue of villains in the Fast and Furious franchise. Variety state in their report about this news that at the time the script was still in development for the film and Theron did not want to commit to anything until a finished draft was completed.
Other casting news for the film released today from TheWrap is that Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju has also joined the cast as a rather vague character that has only been described as a tough henchman.
Fast 8 still hasn’t been given an official synopsis as of yet other than the film will be set in various locations including New York and Cuba. In terms of the news of both casting announcements, I’m definitely on board for Theron and Hivju going up against Dom and family here as Theron is obviously talented, which makes me more curious as to who her character could be and Hivju, whom I’ve only seen in Game of Thrones, is a good actor and definitely fits into the henchman role perfectly.
Fast 8 is set for cinematic release on the 14th April 2017.
