Tonight Variety and Deadline have been reporting that actress Tessa Thompson is set to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring in Thor: Ragnarok.
The Thor sequel is set to follow Thor returning to Asgard when his home realm is threatened by the Ragnarok, which is the Norse apocalypse. Other details of the plot are being kept under wraps, though we know joining Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok will be Mark Ruffalo as fellow Avenger Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Jaime Alexander as Lady Sif and Cate Blanchett is still in talking stages to appear in an unknown role, with the film being directed by Taika Waiti.
Deadline‘s article on the news states Tessa Thompson will kind of be playing a superhero in the film that will serve as a love interest for Thor in this instalment and will feature in other Marvel films as well, according to what their sources have been telling them. Tessa Thompson has been around for quite some time starting off on the small screen in shows such as Veronica Mars, 666 Park Avenue and Copper, but over the last year has exploded on the big screen due to her memorable performances in Dear White People, Selma and recently Creed. Also Thompson is working on a new HBO drama in the works called Westworld and will also be appearing in Alex Garland’s next film Annihilation starring alongside Natalie Portman.
I really like Tessa Thompson’s work, especially in her recent performances and I like that she looks set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I just don’t feel we need another love interest brought into play for Thor, especially since the love angle between Thor and Sif was hinted at and then seemingly dropped from exploring further in Thor: The Dark World. It’ll be interesting trying to figure out what character she could be playing in the Ragnarok instalment.
Thor: Ragnarok is scheduled for cinematic release on the 3rd November 2017.
