The Phenom: Official Trailer Drops Online

Film News - The Phenom - Official Trailer Drops OnlineRLJ Entertainment have released their official trailer for baseball drama The Phenom.

The official synopsis for The Phenom is as follows:

A Major League rookie pitcher loses control over his pitching and is sent down to the minor leagues, where he begins sessions with an unorthodox sports psychologist. In the process, hidden conflicts with his overbearing father are brought to light.

Johnny Simmons (Scott Pilgrim VS The World/The Standford Prison Experiment) plays burgeoning MLB pitcher Hopper Gibson whose throwing arm begins to fall apart, while Ethan Hawke (Boyhood/Predestination) plays Hopper’s ex-con father, whose tough love and verbal abuse could be at the root of the pitcher’s problems and Hopper’s psychologist, Dr. Mobley, is played by Paul Giamatti. The cast also includes Alison Elliott, Paul Adelstein, Marin Ireland, Sophie Kennedy Clark and Louisa Krause. The film was screened at the Tribeca Film Festival last month and will have a limited theatrical release in the US on the 24th June 2016. There is no official confirmation of a wide release or even an international release as of yet.

The trailer brought me in on the fact it starred Ethan Hawke and Paul Giamatti and the trailer made me want to see the film even more as though it may be a sports film, it’s looking more at the psychological effects of the human man within the sporting realm and feels more personal thanks to the inclusion of Hawke’s father character and make some instantly relate to Hopper’s mental state of mind. It’s a well put together trailer and I will try to seek this film out if it gets the chance of a release around here.

The Phenom is scheduled for cinematic release on the 24th June 2016.
