The Get Down: Netflix Set Part II For April 2017 Release

TV News - The Get Down - Netflix Set Part 2 For April 2017 ReleaseNetflix have announced that the second part of the first season of Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down will drop on the 7th April 2017.

The Get Down takes us back to the late 1970’s in New York City, focusing on a group of teenagers from the South Bronx who try to change their lives for the better. We follow a young woman trying to make a name for herself as a disco singer and a group of young men trying to tell their lives through music in hip-hop.

Part I was released towards the end of summer last year and Part II now is set in 1978, a year after the events of the debut season. With disco reigning supreme, a new, as-yet-unnamed genre is burgeoning, with young lovers Books and Mylene.

As Netflix puts it for Part II:

Caught up in the looming cultural revolution. Amidst the backdrop of a bankrupt New York City, ruthless gangsters and money-hungry record label bosses, they discover it’s only their creativity and love that will carry them through – and that they’ll sacrifice everything for their music, and each other.
