Gears Of War: Shane Salerno To Write Script For Universal

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Universal Pictures have brought Shane Salerno on board the project to write the screenplay for the live-action adaptation of the video game franchise Gears of War.

Gears of War is set on the fictional planet of Sera, where in the video game series we follow a squad of commandos living in a bombed out post-apocalyptic society who battle swarms of creatures called Locusts.

It was announced back in October of last year that a film adaptation was in development, with Rod Fergusson, head of game developer The Coalition, said at the time that the film would not be based on any particular game in the series thus far and will instead be a new story set in that universe. Dylan Clark and Scott Stuber are attached as producers.

Shane Salerno is currently penning the screenplays for James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, his other writing credits include Armageddon, Shaft and Savages.
