Deadline is exclusively reporting that Penelope Mitchell is the latest name to join the cast of Lionsgate and Millennium Film’s reboot of Hellboy.
Mike Mignola created Hellboy back in 1993, telling the story of a demon being raised by a professor, growing up to fight supernatural evil beings for an organisation known as the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense. The upcoming reboot, formerly titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, will focus on Big Red squaring off against a medieval sorceress who seeks to destroy mankind.
The report states that Penelope Mitchell (whose credits include Hemlock Grove and The Vampire Diaries) will be playing the role of Ganeida, an elder witch who has decided that Nimue’s wrath has gone on for too long and must be stopped.
Hellboy is being directed by Neil Marshall, aiming to begin production in September, filming in the UK and Bulgaria and Penelope Mitchell will be joining a cast that includes David Harbour, Ian McShane, Milla Jovovich and Sasha Lane.
