Deadline is reporting that Russell Hornsby is the latest name to join the cast of Warner Bros. and MGM’s Creed II.
Released in 2015, Creed is a spinoff of the Rocky franchise where we follow a young man named Adonis Johnson, who happens to be the son of a famous boxing great known as Apollo Creed. Taken in by Apollo’s widow, Mary Anne, after he loses his mother, Adonis grows up wanting to follow in his fathers footsteps in boxing. This leads him to moving to Philadelphia in the hope of getting his father’s old friend and rival, Rocky Balboa, to train and mentor him. The sequel continues to follow Adonis who is facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past which intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family.
Steven Caple Jr. will be directing the sequel, with the screenplay penned by Cheo Hodari Coker and Sylvester Stallone. Russell Hornsby will be joining new additions Florian Munteanu and Dolph Lundgren (who is reprising his Ivan Drago role from Rocky IV), and returning cast Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris and Andre Ward.
Creed II is scheduled for cinematic release on the 21st November 2018.
