Deadline is reporting that Jacki Weaver, Betty Gilpin, William Sadler and Frankie Faison are the latest names to join the cast of Sony’s reimagining of the horror film The Grudge.
The film is set to be a remake of the 2004 film, the US remake of the the 2002 Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge, which focused on an American nurse living and working in Tokyo that becomes exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse, one that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim. The film was directed by Takashi Shimizu, who directed the Japanese original, and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Fehr, KaDee Strickland, William Mapother and Clea DuVall.
The report doesn’t state what roles that any of the actors announced will play in the film. Nicolas Pesce is on board to direct as well as pen the script. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will serve as producers under the Ghost House banner, with Nathan Kahane and Erin Westerman serving as executive producers under the Good Universe banner alongside Schuyler Weiss, Roy Lee and Doug Davison. Romel Adam will be overseeing the project alongside Brady Fujikawa. I must say when I heard of Sony remaking The Grudge, I didn’t care for it mainly because I didn’t enjoy the US version on the story, but with the ensemble they’re bringing into this particular project, I am curious as to what the reimagining will look like.
