The series, created by Brian Yorkey and based on the young adult novel by Jay Asher, tells the story of a young girl named Hannah Baker tragically committing suicide, devastating her classmate Clay Jensen, who had a crush on her. A few weeks after her death he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it, containing cassette tapes recorded by Hannah, detailing the thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. The second season picks up in the aftermath of the first season finale, where Liberty High prepares to go on trial, but someone will stop at nothing to keep the truth surrounding Hannah’s death concealed. A series of ominous Polaroids lead Clay and his classmates to uncover a sickening secret and a conspiracy to cover it up.
I always felt that we didn’t really need a second season for 13 Reasons Why and it kind of left a certain thread open that a potential school shooting could be on the cards. From the trailer though, there’s hint of a shooting that could take place but it’s not related to that certain character from the first season and instead we’re getting a series of polaroids that look set to relate to the trial we’re getting about Hannah’s parents vs Liberty High.
13 Reasons Why stars Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Christian Navarro, Alisha Boe, Brandon Flynn, Justin Prentice, Miles Heizer, Ross Butler, Devin Druid, Michele Selene Ang, Amy Hargreaves, Derek Luke and Kate Walsh and joining them for the second season are Anne Winters, Bryce Cass, Chelsea Alden, Allison Miller, Samantha Logan, Kelli O’Hara, Ben Lawson, Jake Weber, Brenda Strong, Meredith Monroe and R.J Brown.
The second season will be available on the streaming service from the 18th May 2018.
