Deadline is reporting that Ryan Fletcher and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett are the latest names to join the cast of Epix’s Batman prequel series Pennyworth.
The series will revolve around Alfred, the best friend, butler and father figure to Bruce Wayne. It’s stated that the series will not be a Gotham spinoff , but an entirely new story exploring Alfred’s origins as a former British SAS Soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s father, in 1960’s London.
Ryan Fletcher (whose credits include Outlander and Shetland) will be playing the role of Dave Boy, a haggard Highland Scotsman who is slowly drinking himself to death since leaving the army, is a close ally of Alfred and Bazza and also the most unpredictable of the trio. Hainsley Lloyd Bennett (whose credits include Casualty and Eastenders) will be playing the role of Bazza, a posh Bajan playboy, is highly proficient at logistics and a valued member of Alfred’s team. They both join recently announced Jack Bannon and Ben Aldridge.
Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller will be writing and executive producing the series, reuniting him with Danny Cannon, who will also executive produce as well as direct the pilot.
Pennyworth is set to commence production next week.
