Deadline is reporting that Paloma Faith is the latest name to join the cast of Epix’s Batman prequel series Pennyworth.
The series will revolve around Alfred, the best friend, butler and father figure to Bruce Wayne. It’s stated that the series will not be a Gotham spinoff , but an entirely new story exploring Alfred’s origins as a former British SAS Soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s father, in 1960’s London.
Paloma Faith (whose credits include St. Trinian’s and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) is set to be playing the villainess of the series as Bet Sykes, a cruel adversary who will test the courage of young Alfred Pennyworth and his new boss, Thomas Wayne. The character is described as a spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain. While Faith has acted previously, she’s more well known for her music career, particularly in the UK.
Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller will be writing and executive producing the series, reuniting him with Danny Cannon, who will also executive produce as well as direct the pilot.
Pennyworth is set to commence production next week.
