Variety is reporting that Andy Bean is the latest name to join the the cast of DC Universe’s upcoming live-action drama series Swamp Thing, whilst confirming Bloody Disgusting‘s report from September that Derek Mears has also joined.
The Swamp Thing series follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous, and the potential love of her life may not be gone after all.
Andy Bean (whose credits include Power and It: Chapter Two) will be playing the role of Alec Holland, a passionate biologist who finds himself in nightmarish circumstances as he realizes that the bizarre disease affecting townspeople may have come as a result of his work in the swamp. This discovery that leads him to confront dark swamp forces which swallow him up, only to emerge as the hero known as Swamp Thing. Derek Mears (whose credits include Friday the 13th and Predators) will be playing the physical embodiment of Swamp Thing, as Alec struggles to hold onto his human identity. He quickly learns that he must embrace his new mutant form and defend the town against the perils of the swamp from whence he came.
Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman are attached to co-write the script and serve as showrunners and executive producers for the live-action drama if it gets a straight-to-series order. James Wan will be serving as executive producer alongside Michael Clear under Atomic Monster banner, with Rob Hackett serving as a co-executive producer. Recently it was reported that Len Wiseman will serve as an executive producer as well as direct the first episode.
