The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Sony Pictures Animation are are currently setting the pieces together to develop a sequel and a spinoff to the upcoming animated feature Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
The official synopsis for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is as follows:
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.
The report states that Joaquim Dos Santos has been attached to direct the sequel, with David Callaham set to pen the script. In the meantime, Lauren Montgomery is in talks with Sony Pictures Animation to direct the as-of-yet untitled spinoff project that will focus on the female heroes in the Spider-Man universe, with Bek Smith set to pen the script. The untitled spinoff could focus on the likes of Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Spider-Girl or Silk, or all of the above. Amy Pascal is expected to serve as producer on both projects, while it’s believed that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be creatively involved with the projects, though no deal has been made between the duo and the studio.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is scheduled for cinematic release on the 14th December 2018.
