Daredevil: Cancelled After Three Seasons At Netflix

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Netflix has cancelled Marvel series Daredevil after three seasons on the streaming service.

The official synopsis for the season ahead is as follows:

Missing for months, Matt Murdock reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.

Netflix released a statement to Deadline, saying:

Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.

The news shouldn’t come as too much of a shock, considering in recent months other Marvel shows Iron Fist and Luke Cage were cancelled. It was believed that with the critical acclaim and viewing figures for Daredevil meant it might be safe from the cut, it seems more than likely now that the Marvel TV/Netflix era partnership is nearing an end as Disney sets in motion the Disney+ streaming service, with only Jessica Jones and The Punisher currently scheduled to run on Netflix as planned, with JJ shooting its third season and The Punisher wrapping up its second season. I absolutely loved the series and in particular the third season, I really hope that Marvel hangs on to Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio and ties them to their respective roles and don’t put them on another streaming service, let us embrace The Man Without Fear on the big screen.

The third season starred Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel, Joanna Whalley, Jay Ali, Stephen Rider and Vincent D’Onofrio.
