The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Josh Brolin is the latest name to join the cast of Legendary’s Dune reboot, which is being directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Dune is set in the distant future and follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.
Josh Brolin (whose recent credits include Avengers: Infinity War and Sicario: Day of the Soldado) will be playing the role of Gurney Halleck, a troubadour-swordsman loyal to the family who is instrumental in the wakening of Atreides’ cosmic powers, which will start a revolution.
Denis Villeneuve is also co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve will also serve as producer on the project alongside Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, while Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull and Kim Herbert will serve as executive producers.
Josh Brolin will be joining a cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya and Javier Bardem.
