Deadline is reporting that Renée Elise Goldsberry and Chris Conner will be reprising their roles for the upcoming second season of Netflix sci-fi series Altered Carbon, and will be joined by new cast members Simone Missick, Dina Shihabi, Torben Liebrecht and James Saito.
Altered Carbon is set in the year 2384, in a futuristic San Francisco known as Bay City. In the future, a person’s memories can be stored in a disk-shaped device called a cortical stack, which is implanted in the back of the neck. They can be placed into physical human beings or synthetic bodies known as ‘Sleeves’ and the stacks can be transferred to new bodies after death, but a person can still be killed if their stack is destroyed. We follow Takeshi Kovacs, a political operative with mercenary skills that is the sole surviving soldier of the Envoys, a rebel group defeated in an uprising against the new world order. 250 years after the Envoys were destroyed, his stack is pulled out of prison by Laurens Bancroft, one o the wealthiest men in the settled worlds. Bancroft gives him the choice of earning a new shot at life….by solving his murder.
Renée Elise Goldsberry will be reprising the role of Quellcrist Falconer, a former Protectorate CTAC soldier who became a revolutionary Envoy and then a mercenary for hire who is driven by her desire to rest the balance between life and death. Takeshi Kovacs’s undying quest to reconnect with her spans multiple centuries, planets and sleeves.
Chris Conner will be reprising the role of Poe, a centuries-old, highly-evolved A.I and loyal companion to Takeshi Kovacs that strives to understand what it means to be human.
Simone Missick (whose credits include Luke Cage and Tell Me A Story) will be playing the role of expert bounty hunter, Trepp who is known for her ability to track down anyone in the Settled Worlds, for the right price.
Dina Shihabi (whose credits include Jack Ryan and Daredevil) will be playing the role of Dig. An out-of-work A.I. programmed to assist human archaeologists, Dig finds a new purpose when she meets Poe.
Torben Liebrecht (whose credits include Operation Finale and X Company) will be playing the role of Colonel Carrera. The dogged leader of a Protectorate Special Forces unit known as the ‘Wedge’, Colonel is on the hunt for Takeshi Kovacs.
James Saito (whose credits include The Terror and Longshot) will be playing the role of Tanaseda. A centuries-old Yakuza boss, Tanaseda controls organised crime on the planet of Harlan’s World and shares a history with Takeshi Kovacs.
