Deadline is reporting that Amy Smart, Neil Jackson, Hunter Sansone and Trae Romano are the latest names to join the cast for DC Universe series Stargirl.
Stargirl was created by Geoff Johns back in 1999, known as Courtney Whitmore, who receives her powers by wielding Starman’s Cosmic staff and wears the Cosmic Converter Belt which gives her agility and enhanced reflexes. The character has appeared in animated series such as Justice League Unlimited and appeared in live-action form in the final seasons of Smallville and also during the second season of CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, portrayed by Sarah Grey. The television series version sees high school student Whitmore band together with the Justice Society of America to fight villains, past and present.
Amy Smart (whose credits include Justified and McGyver) will be playing the role of Barbara Whitmore, the mother of Courtney Whitmore (aka Stargirl) and new wife of Pat Dugan. With her daughter in high school, Barbara is diving back into the workforce but striving to balance workplace demands with the commitments of both matrimony and motherhood.
The roles for Neil Jackson (whose credits include Absentia and Westworld) and Hunter Sansone (whose credits include Unfollow and Drama Drama) are being kept under wraps, according to the report.
Trae Romano (whose credits include Robbie and 555) will be playing the role of Mike Dugan, the overly charming offspring of Pat and the unctuous new step-relative to household newcomers Barbara and Courtney Whitmore.
The Stargirl series has been ordered for a thirteen-episode season, aiming for a 2019 premiere release date and will be produced by Warner Bros. TV, Geoff Johns’ Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.
The new additions will be joining a cast that includes Brec Bassinger, Yvette Monreal, Christopher James Baker, Joel McHale, Lou Ferrigno Jr, Henry Thomas, Joy Osmanski, Neil Hopkins, Nelson Lee, Luke Wilson, Anjelika Washington, Meg DeLacy, Jake Austin Walker and Cameron Gellman.
