Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. pencilled in DC Films Aquaman sequel for a cinematic release on the 16th December 2022.
The 2018 film revealed the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and took him on the journey of his lifetime–one that would not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he was worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
The original film was released around the 12th December onwards in most countries last year so it makes sense that Warner Bros. would look for that timeslot again, as the film is still raking money in, currently totalling at over $1.1bn worldwide.
So far only David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-wrote the Aquaman script with Will Beall, is returning to write the sequel, but James Wan and Peter Safran will still be serving as producers on the sequel.
Aquaman 2 is scheduled for cinematic release on the 16th December 2022.
