Morbius: Tyrese Gibson In Talks To Join Cast For Spider-Man Spinoff

Variety is exclusively reporting that Tyrese Gibson is in negotiations with Sony Pictures to join the cast of the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film Morbius.


Morbius focuses on Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who tries to cure himself from a fatal blood disease, he injects himself with a treatment serum derived from bats, with tragic results. He becomes afflicted with traits of a vampire, including fangs and a thirst for human blood, which more often than not put him at odds against Spider-Man.


The Morbius character was created for the comics back in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for “The Amazing Spider-Man issue 101”, and would start off as Spider-Man’s nemesis before evolving into his own as a comic hero as the decades went on.


Details of who Tyrese Gibson (whose credits include The Fate of the Furious and Four Brothers) will be playing are currently unknown.


The Morbius spinoff script is written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, with Daniel Espinosa directing and Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster serving as producers on the project.


Tyrese Gibson could be joining a cast that includes Jared LetoAdria ArjonaMatt Smith and Jared Harris.


Morbius is scheduled for cinematic release on the 31st July 2020.
