Deadline is reporting that the USA network has renewed thriller-drama series The Sinner for a third season, whilst also confirming that Matt Bomer will be starring opposite Bill Pullman for the upcoming season.
The second season focused on Detective Harry Ambrose being lured back to his hometown in rural New York to assess an unsettling and hearth wrenching crime, parents murdered by their eleven-year-old son, with no apparent motive. As Ambrose realises there’s nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, the investigation pulls him into the hidden darkness of his hometown. He’s pitted against those who’ll stop at nothing to protect its secrets and a mysterious woman who proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle.
The third season sees Detective Harry Ambrose begin a routine investigation of a tragic car accident on the outskirts of Dorchester, in upstate New York. Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime that pulls him into the most dangerous and disturbing case of his career.
Matt Bomer (whose credits include White Collar and Doom Patrol) will be playing the role of Jamie, an upstanding Dorchester resident and expectant father who looks to Ambrose for support in the wake of the accident.
Derek Simonds will be returning to serve as showrunner for the third season, as well serve as an executive producer alongside Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple, under their Iron Ocean banner, Charlie Gogolak and Willie Reale. Adam Bernstein will also serve as an executive producer and direct the first two episodes of the third season.
