The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Chang Chen is in negotiations with Legendary to join the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot.
Dune is set in the distant future and follows Paul Atreides, whose family assumes control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, jurisdiction over Arrakis is contested among competing noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship with nature, as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s reign.
The report states that Chang Chen (whose credits include The Assassin and The Grandmaster) is in talks to play the role of Dr. Yueh, who in the novel is a physician who works for the Atreides family.
Denis Villeneuve is also co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. Villeneuve will also serve as producer on the project alongside Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, while Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Thomas Tull and Kim Herbert will serve as executive producers.
Chang Chen will be joining a cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and David Dastmalchian.
Dune is scheduled for cinematic release on the 20th November 2020.
