Deadline is reporting that Michela De Rossi is the latest name to join the cast of The Sopranos prequel film The Many Saints of Newark at New Line.
David Chase created The Sopranos, which focused on New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano, dealing with personal and professional issues in his home and business life, which affects his mental state that leads him to seek professional psychiatric counselling. The series ran for six seasons on HBO through 1999 to 2007.
The film is set to take place during the 1960’s, when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other’s throats, and amongst the gangsters of each group, those conflicts became especially lethal.
The report from Deadline states that Michela De Rossi (whose credits include The Rats and Boys Cry) will be playing the role of an ambitious Italian immigrant who comes to America and settles in Newark.
The film is being directed by Alan Taylor, with the script written by David Chase and Lawrence Konner. The film is scheduled to commence production in New Jersey and New York next week.
Michela De Rossi will be joining a cast that includes Alessandro Nivola, Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Michael Gandolfini, Ray Liotta and John Magaro and Leslie Odom Jr.
