Deadline is exclusively reporting that Brandon Routh will be once again become the Man of Steel, whilst Tyler Hoechlin will also portray Superman in the upcoming CW/Arrowverse crossover event Crisis On Infinite Earths.
Crisis On Infinite Earths is the followup crossover event to last years Elseworlds, where Arkham Asylum doctor John Deegan rewriting reality, which results in Oliver and Barry swapping lives. In this new reality, the two heroes are the only ones that know that they are in the wrong lives and have each other’s powers.
The Elseworlds crossover event introduced audiences to Ruby Rose’s Batwoman, whose show will also be part of this crossover event alongside Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
It’s unclear as to they plan to cue the characters into the storyline/which timelines or Earths it would include, but appearing at this years San Diego Comic Con, we know that Routh will be portraying the Kingdom Come version of Superman. This is in relation to the 1996 DC Comics Elseworlds miniseries where Superman is an older, wearier version of the character compared to his mainstream counterparts.
Brandon Routh originally played Superman in the 2006 film Superman Returns, but in this Arrowverse he’s been playing Ray Palmer/The Atom for the last few years, being introduced in Arrow then moving on to become a mainstay on spinoff series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
