TVLine is reporting that Stephen Amell has signed on to headline wrestling drama series Heels at Starz after the final season of Arrow comes to a close.
Heels will be set in a close-knit Georgia community, focusing on a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy, the face, and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to (and just as hard to leave behind).
Stephen Amell (whose other credits include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows and Private Practice) will be playing the role of Jack, the charismatic villain, or heel, of the Duffy Wrestling Association. Outside the ring, he’s its hard-working owner, a husband and father trying to make ends meet while fighting to realise his impossible dreams. He has the mind of an artist in the body of a warrior, and a Steve Jobs-ian need for perfection…and control. He says he’ll do whatever it takes to build the DWA into an empire.
Stephen Amell, a professed fan of wrestling, is no stranger to the world of professional wrestling as he featured in a feud with WWE’s Stardust and took part in a tag team match at SummerSlam 2015. In 2018, Amell took part in his first singles match in September against Christopher Daniels at the independent wrestling event All In.
The drama series will have an eight-episode order.
