Disney’s Pixar announced at the D23 Expo that upcoming animated film Soul will be toplined by Jaime Foxx and Tina Fey, with Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad and Questlove also cast.
The tagline for the film is as follows:
Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams and your interests come from? What is it that makes you … you?
The film is set to take place between New York City and the never-before-seen cosmic realms and the ‘You Seminar’, the fantastical place where we all discover our unique personalities. Jamie Foxx (whose credits include Baby Driver and Robin Hood) will be voicing Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher whose true passion is playing jazz. Tina Fey (whose credits include Great News and Wine Country) will be playing the role of 22, a soul-in-training who has an unexpected encounter with Joe when he accidentally finds his way to the ‘You Seminar’. Together, the two are going to find a way to get Joe back to Earth, making him think again about what it truly means to have soul.
The film is being directed by Pete Doctor, with the script written by Mike Jones, and the original score being created by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, with new jazz music from Jon Batiste.
Soul is scheduled for cinematic release on the 19th June 2020.
