Deadline is exclusively reporting that Eva Longoria has signed up to direct Fox Searchlight’s Flamin’ Hot, the biopic about Richard Montanez, the man who created the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos snack.
The biopic will focus on the inspiring story of Richard and Judy Montanez. Richard rose from humble beginnings to achieving the American Dream. The son of a Mexican immigrant, Richard was a janitor at Frito-Lay when he came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and his creation, inspired by the flavours of his community, revitalised the company and disrupted the food industry, creating a pop culture phenomenon that continues today.
The report states that Eva Longoria beat out multiple directors after impressing DeVon Franklin from Franklin Entertaiment and Fox Searchlight with her authentic approach to telling the story about the Montanez’s. The film is written by Lewis Colick and Samuel Rodriguez serves as executive producer on the project.
