The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, Peacock, is developing a new series of Saved By The Bell, with Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley currently the names attached to return, with sources stating that the streamer is in talks with other original cast members, including Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
The straight-to-series comedy is said to explore what happens when California Governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools and proposes the affected students be sent to the highest performing schools in the state…including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over-privileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality.
Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley will reprise the roles of A.C Slater and Jessie Spano, with THR’s spruces saying that their roles will be as parents. Tracey Wigfield will be serving as showrunner and executive producer on the series, alongside original series creator Peter Engel and Franco Bario. Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley will also serve as producers.
