Deadline is exclusively reporting that Rick Moranis has signed a deal to return to the big screen as Wayne Szalinski the upcoming Honey, I Shrunk sequel Shrunk at Disney.
The original film, released in 1989, seen scientist and inventor Wayne Szalinski attempt to create a ray gun that is capable of shrinking objects. His son and daughter, Amy and Nick, and neighbourhood teens, Russell “Russ” Thompson Jr. and Ronald ‘Ron’ Thompson, accidentally get shrunk by the machine and must fight diminutive dangers as Wayne Szalinski searches for them.
The sequel is set to focus on Wayne Szalinski’s son, who will be played by Josh Gad, as he aspires to be a great scientist like his father, but accidentally shrinks the kids.
Original director Joe Johnston returns to helm the film, with Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing under the Mandeville Films and Television banner, with Todd Rosenberg penning the script.
