Deadline is exclusively reporting that Chris Bauer, Allen Maldonado and James Harrison are the latest names to join the cast of wrestling drama series Heels at Starz.
Heels will be set in a close-knit Georgia community, focusing on a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals, Jack and Ace Spade, war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy, the face, and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel. But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to (and just as hard to leave behind).
Chris Bauer (whose credits include The Wire and For All Mankind) will be playing the role of Wild Bill Hancock, a larger-than-life former wrestling star who is now a high-level pro wrestling scout.
Allen Maldonado (whose credits include Black-ish and The Last O.G.) will be playing the role of Rooster Robbins, one of the best wrestlers in the circuit who always has something to prove, and always backs it up.
James Harrison (who starred most recently is S.W.A.T and is a two-time Superbowl champion) will be playing the role of Apocalypse, a been-around-the-block journeyman wrestler who’s been at it for decades and has no illusions of fame or glory.
The eight-episode series is being written by Michael Waldron, with Mike O’Malley serving as showrunner with the pair serving also as executive producers alongside LBI Entertainment’s Julie Yorn, Chris Donnelly and Patrick Walmsley.
