Deadline is exclusively reporting that Judy Greer is the latest name to join the cast of Flint Strong, Universal’s feature adaptation based on the 2015 documentary T-Rex, which focused on boxer Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields.

The sports drama will tell the true story of seventeen-year-old Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, a native of Flint, Michigan, who dreamed of becoming the first woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing, which were realised at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

While Judy Greer’s (which recent credits include Halloween and Kidding) role wasn’t revealed in the report, it states that they hear that it’s a key role.

Rachel Morrison is making her directorial feature debut on the project, which was filming in Toronto until it shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but is expected to resume there once restrictions have been lifted, and crews can safely return. Zackary Canepari and Drea Cooper, the original documentary filmmakers, are serving as executive producers on the project, whilst Michael De Luca and Elishia Holmes are serving as producers on the project under the De Luca Productions alongside Barry Jenkins, who also wrote the script.

Flint Strong will also star Ryan Destiny and Ice Cube.
