Media outlets are reporting that the USA Network have cancelled the television adaptation series of The Purge after two seasons.
The series revolved around a 12-hour period when all crime, including murder, is legal in an altered America ruled by a totalitarian political party.
The series is based on the Universal film franchise of the same name, with each season focusing on a different set of characters. The first season took place in between the timeline of the second (Anarchy) and third (Election Year) installments in The Purge film franchise, whilst the second season focused on a single Purge Night affected the lives of four individuals over the course of the ensuing year, leading up to the next Purge.
Whilst The Purge followed the same model as Treadstone for the USA Network (air on the network in the US, Amazon Prime streaming service worldwide), it drew enough eyes to warrant a second season, but unfortunately its linear viewership was down 50% in season 2, leading to the inevitable demise of the show.
The Purge series starred Gabriel Chavarria, Derek Luke, Hannah Emily Anderson, Max Martini, Jessica Garza, Paola Nuñez, Joel Allen and Amanda Warren.
