Deadline is exclusively reporting that Ade Chike Torbert is the latest name to join the cast for the upcoming Power prequel series Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan, is set to be a prequel series set in the 1990’s that will chronicle the early years of Kanan Stark, whose world revolves around his mother Raq, who raised him by herself. She is his everything. At the same time, he is beginning to get a sense of not only the world around him but his place in said world. Kanan wants to be just like his mother…and that’s the problem. He’s young and wide-eyed and doesn’t know how the hustle works. And even more important, his mother is not nearly as keen as he is for him to follow in her footsteps. Theirs is a complicated relationship that only gets more problematic as time goes on.
Ade Chike Torbert (whose credits include David Makes Man and I Am The Night) will be playing the recurring role of Scrappy. Tough and stubborn, Scrappy is one of Raq’s most trusted soldiers. With a street savvy as strong as his heart and loyalty to the crew, he reluctantly watches over Kanan and teaches him the inner workings of the family business.
Raising Kanan will be executive produced by executive produced by Power creator Courtney Kemp, Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Mark Canton, Chris Salek, Danielle DeJesus, Shana Stein and Bart Wenrich. The report also states that Rob Hardy is attached to direct the pilot episode, as well as serve as executive producer.
Ade Chike Torbert joins a cast that includes Omar Epps, Patina Miller, Mekai Curtis, Hailey Kilgore, Lovie Simone, London Brown, Malcolm Mays, Shanley Caswell, Toby Sandeman, Joey Bada$$ and Quincy Brown.
