Variety is exclusively reporting that Universal Pictures are developing a reboot of the 1996 blockbuster Twister, with Joseph Kosinski in negotiations to direct.
Whilst plot details are thin at this moment for the reboot version, the original film focused on Jo and Bill Harding, a pair of storm chasers who are a couple on the brink of divorce. They team up to chase tornadoes in order to deliver their advance weather alert system that has to be placed in the path of the Twister. The original film made $495.7m worldwide and starred Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, Cary Elwes, Alan Ruck, Zach Grenier and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
The studio is currently meeting with writers to find out which one to bring on board to write the script for the reboot. Frank Marshall will be producing the project, while Senior Vice President of Production, Sara Scott, will oversee the project for Universal.
