Deadline is exclusively reporting that John Boyega, Jack Reynor, Jodie Turner-Smith and Felicity Jones are set to star in IRA thriller Borderland.
Borderland focuses on an Irish paramilitary named Michael, who witnesses the shooting of his pregnant wife at the hands of an SAS sergeant named Tempest when a border ambush goes wrong. When Tempest is sent back to London to lead a covert counter-terrorist operation, Michael joins a ruthless Active Service Unit (ASU) wreaking havoc in the capital. For Michael the mission is personal to hunt down Tempest, and he’ll stop at nothing to avenge his wife’s death.
The film is being directed by the Guard Brothers, Charles and Thomas, who released a statement saying:
Borderland is a vengeance fuelled chase movie, fusing some pulse ticking action with a powerful message for our times. We’re thrilled that the script, driven as much by character as it is by plot, has attracted such a first rate cast.
Producer Chris Coen added:
It’s been a pleasure working with Rocket Science putting the film together and I couldn’t be more excited to get this prodigious project into production later this year. The Guard Brothers make for a terrific team who are assembling a formidable cast and crew.
The film will see Jack Reynor (whose credits include Midsommar and Strange Angel) playing the role of Michael, while John Boyega (whose credits include Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Watership Down) will be playing the role of Tempest. The Guard Brothers co-wrote the screenplay with Ronan Bennett, which is inspired by the Steven S. Moysey novel The Road To Balcombe Street. Erik Wilson will be director of photography on the project, with Chris Coen producing alongside Rebecca Brown, with Felicity Jones serving as executive producer via Piecrust Productions.
Rocket Science is selling and financing the project, with the film being aimed to commence production in the UK in early 2021.
