A Spy Among Friends: Damian Lewis And Dominic West In Talks To Star In Cold War Limited Series

Deadline is reporting that Damian Lewis and Dominic West are in negotiations to star and executive produce a limited series adaptation of Ben Macintyre’s bestselling novel A Spy Among Friends.

A Spy Among Friends follows the defection of notorious British intelligence officer and KGB double agent, Kim Philby, through the lens of his complex relationship with MI6 colleague and close friend, Nicholas Elliott. The show examines espionage through their friendship, the fallout of which affects East-West relations to this day.

Dominic West looks set to play the role of Kim Philby, while Damian Lewis looks set to play the role of Nicholas Elliott. Philby was a British spy who notoriously defected to the Soviet Union in the 1950s, betraying secrets to the Russians in the early years of the Cold War. He and Elliott entered the spy game together, but as they rose through the MI6 ranks, Philby turned double agent.

This limited series adaptation hails from Alexander Cary, Sony Pictures Television and ITV Studios, with the limited series being aimed to air for Spectrum Originals and the UK streamer BritBox, which will mark their first drama commission. Nick Murphy will direct and will executive produce alongside Cary, ITV Studios Creative Director Patrick Spence, Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer and Peter Jaysen.

A Spy Among Friends is being scheduled to premiere in the Autumn of 2021.
