Deadline is exclusively reporting that Terence Stamp, Jade Anouka and Simone Kirby will be joining the cast for the upcoming second season of HBO and BBC drama series His Dark Materials.
The official synopsis for the series is as follows:
Adapting Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, the first season follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Her search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets Will, a determined and courageous boy. Together, they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living — and the dead — in their hands.
This coming season, based on The Subtle Knife, the second book in Philip Pullman’s trilogy, sees Lyra finding herself in the mysterious abandoned city of Cittàgazze, where she meets Will.
Terence Stamp (whose recent credits include Of Gods and Warriors and Murder Mystery) will be playing the role of Giacomo Paradisi, the bearer of the Subtle Knife who lives in the Torre de Angeli (Tower of the Angels) in Cittàgazze.
Jade Anouka (whose credits include Last Christmas and The Rhythm Section) will be playing the role of witch queen Ruta Skadi, who joins forces with Serafina Pekkala against the Magisterium.
Simone Kirby (whose credits include Resistance and Rebellion) will be playing the role of Dr. Mary Malone, the head of a Dark Matter Research Team at an Oxford University in our world.
