Deadline is exclusively reporting that MGM have acquired the rights to make a musical film adaptation of the stage play Cyrano, with Joe Wright set to direct and Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Brian Tyree Henry and Ben Mendelsohn attached to star.
The stage play, which is adapted from Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, is written by Erica Schmidt (who also wrote the libretto), with the music by The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner, lyrics by Matt Berninger and Carin Besser.
Peter Dinklage (whose credits include Game of Thrones and The Angry Birds Movie 2) will be reprising the title role he played onstage, with Haley Bennett (whose credits include Swallow and The Devil All The Time) will be reprising the role of Roxanne, as the two starred alongside each other at the Terris Theatre in 2018. The report doesn’t state what roles Brian Tyree Henry and Ben Mendelsohn will be playing.
Cyrano will be produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, alongside Guy Heeley.
