Deadline is exclusively reporting that Nia DaCosta looks to have found her next project by signing up to direct the Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel 2.
The first film, released in March 2019, focused on Vers on the Kree planet of Hala, who’s suffering from recurring nightmares of a potential past life as well as being caught in the middle of a galactic war between the Kree and the Skrulls. Then, Vers learned that she’s Carol Danvers, a U.S Air Force pilot that was presumed dead in 1989 while testing an experimental light-speed engine designed by Dr. Wendy Lawson.
Nia DaCosta made her directorial feature debut with Little Woods, then moved on to direct the highly anticipated horror reboot Candyman. The report states that though Marvel Studios have met with several individuals, DaCosta seemed to be the one they wanted for some time. Now she will take over the reins from Anna Bodn and Ryan Fleck, who directed the original that earned a total of $1.13billion at the worldwide box office.
Megan McDonnell, whose is a story editor on the Marvel/Disney+ series WandaVision, is writing the script for the sequel. It’s worth nothing that the WandaVision series will also have Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, with the character being played by Akira Akbar in Captain Marvel. While we know Brie Larson will be returning, will we see Teyonah Parris make an appearance? Time will tell.
