Deadline is exclusively reporting that Nik Dodani and Colton Ryan are the latest names to join the cast of Universal’s film adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen.
The film is based on the musical play of the same name, with music and lyrics written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, focuses on Evan Hansen, a high school senior with a severe Social Anxiety disorder, whose letter to himself, one that was not meant to be seen by others, lands into the wrong hands of a fellow classmate who, as a result, commits suicide. This incident sends Evan on a journey of self-discovery and gives him the chance to finally be accepted by his peers and live the life he never dreamed he could have.
Nik Dodani (whose credits include Atypical and Trinkets) will be playing the role of Jared, Evan’s enterprising family friend, while Colton Ryan (whose credits include Homeland and Little Voice) will be playing the role of Connor, a troubled high school senior who is a catalyst for the plot of the musical.
Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical, is adapting the screenplay for the big screen, while Stephen Chbosky is attached to direct. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel will be producing the project under their Marc Platt Productions banner.
The duo will join a cast that includes Ben Platt and Amandla Stenberg.
